Sleeplessness
by Dmitri Skomorochov
Once upon a midnight dreary,
While I pondered weak and weary,
Plagued by sleep I could not conquer,
Craving peace, I could not somber,
So I typed upon my keyboard,
Exhausted and completely bored,
Hoping that my midnight yearning,
Could be changed to pillow churning,
Wishing I could hold my pillow,
Dream of lying 'neath a willow,
Knowing that the hope of dreaming,
Keeps my eyes from sleepful seeming,
Looking at my pillow softly,
Wish I hadn't drank that coffee,
Pond'ring all my fear and dread,
Wishing I was snug in bed,
So I type and pray for resting,
So I laugh and keep on jesting,
Knowing that the fault is mine,
No more caffeine after nine!
